THE FUTURETwenty years competing in competitions avtomodelisty with radio controlled models. In 1957 the first all-Union competitions participated 8 teams of about 50 cars of different classes. RC I didn’t even have enough to play three prizes. The winner then became rostovchanin N. Podporkin, created their own original scheme for the radio and received a special prize for the best technical solution. The winners entered and known in our country, the Antonov an master of sports of the USSR S. Malik. He took the second place, adapting the model aircraft radio equipment ROOM 1 on the car. By the way, and the other less fortunate participants took advantage of this universal (frankly, not very suitable for earthly conditions) equipment.

 

As time went on, multiplied the ranks of designers of radio-controlled models, improved scheme of transmitters and receivers, replace the tubes came transistors, batteries KBS-0.5 replaced by small-sized lead and silver-zinc batteries, increased power motors… but that’s the speed of the models during the passage of the special curly q tracks grew very slowly. Few who managed to overcome it faster than three or four minutes. A brake was used in the 60-ies of the so-called discrete instrument: it allows you only to enable or disable the executing mechanism. And that means that there was no smooth rotation of the wheels and change the number of revolutions of the motor. To manage such a model was very difficult, as sleep all the time “scoured” from side to side and leaving behind the envelope” designated for its passage “shaped corridor”. That’s why by the end of 60 years the rate began to depend only on the driving skills of the model for complex shaped track.
 
The emergence in the late 60-ies of the proportional equipment of the type “Varioprop”, “Futaba” gave impetus to its use on the car. This instrument was of fundamental advantages over discrete. The name proportional — is derived from the principle of work: it enables remote control of the transmitter smoothly (in proportion to the movement of the handles and limbs) to control actuators on the model. Roughly speaking, the athlete began to “spin the wheel” as on the real car. And was immediately followed by a sharp jump. The passage of time figured the route was reduced from 4 min to 30 s, which demanded utmost concentration and the fitness of the designer of the athlete. It was even observed that those who have the practice of driving a real car or a driver’s license and travels by car, go the distance faster and with fewer errors. Movement their model smooth, “fast-rolling”: look the part — right after the little car moving along a difficult mountain road.
 
It would seem that it is still possible to improve on this model? Everything works to the limit of their capabilities: both the model and “driver”, managing it. But modelers are the kind of people that never complacent. And the arena of technical creativity is a new, fundamentally different from the former type of models— speed with internal combustion engines. It is, if you can make such a comparison, aerobatics on the ground.
 
What is a high-speed radio-controlled model with internal combustion engine! The little engine (with a displacement of up to 3.5 cm3) mounted on a model racing car, connected to an automatic transmission that includes a clutch and a brake, with wheels. Using placed under the hood a dual-channel receiver, the athlete controls the mode of operation of the engine and the front wheels of the model. The remote control reproduces in miniature the driver — steering wheel, gas lever and so on. Models can start together and reach the speed of 40-60 km/h. this Means that they need a fundamentally new figure track, allowing you to participate in the race at the same time of 3-6 models.
 
While in the Soviet Union only built about a dozen such models. But not far off the time when this model will be each team arrives at the all-Union competitions. Their popularity is growing, and, according to the Federation of auto modeling sport of the USSR, to the future sports season in the competition will participate at least 20 cars.
 
What’s holding back in some way the development of this new, extremely interesting and promising self-similar form of creativity? As with any new business, it is kept ka enthusiasts.
 
Most built and participated in the first demonstration models were equipped with standard multi-channel domestic and foreign equipment used by the aircraft and modelers. Unfortunately, it is very sophisticated, road and also scarce. To control model is dual channel instrument, and it is significantly (two to three times) less than the standard eight. But the standard dual channel not available. And rationally whether to produce such equipment for avtomodelistov? Yes, rationally. It is universal in application. It can be use in two classes of model aircraft (radio-controlled glider, and simple aerobatic model for boys), and high-speed models of the ships shaped course. The case for industry. Modelers are waiting for this equipment.
 
It’s time to think about the engine with working volume of 3.5 cm3 for RC models. Now they are motors 2,5 cm3. Due to the lack of a power model “nedobirayut” speed. Moreover, models of this type in accordance with the rules of competition are increased requirements for noise. Modelers design and fit to their motors improvised mufflers that further reduce and so the missing power. Release the motor with high torque and moderate speed (unlike high-speed high-speed low-torque) equipped with angled muffler does not reduce engine power, — a task of great urgency. At the dawn of the self-similar sport was manufactured developed at the Central laboratory of the self-similar two parcels for the manufacture of high-speed cord models. This is important. Other difficulties modelers have remained the same as that of the “pioneers” automotive simulation, started many years ago. Where to find hollow tires with the right tread and the required diameter! What reducer to adapt and survive if it developed engine power! These and many other problems of the young technical creativity could also solve the sets of goods of different specifications: with body or without, complete with motors and steering servos or just the gear and tires etc.
 
Cannot contribute to the progress and the lack of a fully worked-rules of technical regulation requirements for all classes of radio controlled models and modalities of competition. Current “Provisional rules of competitions on high-speed radio-controlled models with internal combustion engines” (one page of typewritten text), it is necessary to tell directly, constrain the creativity of the modelers, not giving ideas about the diversity of model types and types of competitions on this sport in other countries. And in our country since 1978 will be “cultivated” four types of RC models. New rules on the majority of items should be unified with the international to modelers of all participating in the competition of countries “talk” the same language.
 
All these thoughts crystallized during the monitoring of demonstrations of high-speed radio-controlled models, held from 11 to 15 may in Baku during the first all-Union competitions on radio-controlled models, in conversations with experienced modelers— designers, the country’s first high-speed radio-controlled models, members of the ground jury, the leaders of the Federation of auto modeling sport of the USSR. They confirmed over the course of the last competitions. No one was expecting sensational results and not count on a “extraklasse” the technical content of the models. Not surprising was the fact that went to the site the same athletes that started yesterday with the “classic” radiomodule because today high-speed RC — is the essence in the construction of car models. They combine the best quality copies (radio and D. V. S.) and high-speed cord models. À in such a combination capable of high-end modelers. The first starts the high-speed radio-controlled models even at the demonstration competition confirmed the lack of organizational experience of refereeing. It was evident from the confusion that happened when the start came from four member models. How much should judges lap counter! Who is obliged to monitor the correctness of the passage model runs! How to make the timing at the same time four participants? These and many other questions off the cuff, immediately, at the start, had to deal with members of the ground jury.
 
It was hard and by the participants of the first races. Because before they never had anyone to stand on the start line. Someone didn’t want to start the engine, the other model “did not listen” to the transmitter (and perhaps interfere with the transmitter of the neighbor), the third machine prematurely “rolled out” over the start line. And prelaunch excitement is not the best way affected the definition of action modellers.
 
By the way, on the highway. As I thought, it was too difficult for the first performances. Eleven of the tire from the map, painted in different colors, “trace” slalom sections on the right and left turns. However, it is particular. The main thing — the practice and performances aroused great interest. Hundreds of Baku residents have supervised gambling and racing radio controlled speed, accompanied by clashes between models and impacts on the bus indicating the route. Finally, we have seen that self-similar fans dreamed for many years!
 
The result is indicative of the competition revealed the first winners of this new Type of models. They were: Mr Black, who won first place, and Barthes Zargaryan, who took second place and became a worthy rival of the winner.
 
There is no doubt that ahead of the high-speed RC starts a lot more and much more successful than Baku. It is important, as they say, to start. The first demonstrations in Baku allow us to conclude: a new species of automodels sport, destined for a long and interesting life.
