NK-24 – RC GLIDER

NK-24 - RC GLIDERThe model is designed to compete in all-around in class F-3-B. Although the airframe is designed for domestic equipment ROOM-2, it can be successfully applied abroad.
When creating the design had taken into account the following: operation in all weather conditions, maximum aerodynamic efficiency, load change, reliability and transportability. The glider wing is two-spar, front (main) zone is intended to provide Flexural strength and the back to increase the strength of the trailing edge at the location of the spoilers (air brakes) and flaps. To enhance the strength in torsion and preserving the profile of the front part of the wing sheeted with balsa 1.5 mm thick. it is made and the flaps.

Spoilers to the structure of type “sandwich”: the balsa — fiberglass — balsa. All of the glued joints based on epoxy resin ED-16.

Flaps and spoilers are covered with thin long-fibre paper, wing covered with veneer and covered with five layers of Amalita and two layers of Tapolca.
Spoilers serve to correct the flight path when landing. The flaps to start are manufactured by hand and are fixed mechanically, they are removed during the uncoupling model (team). This makes it easy to start with the use of ballast to complete the exercise.

The fuselage is fiberglass, of three (in the front) and two (rear) layers of fiberglass 0.18 mm thick, bonded in a matrix of epoxy resin EPS-1.

To increase rigidity, it glued some plywood and balsa frames. Near the center of gravity of the model with a camera for ballast.

The keel of the glider truss, pasted with veneer and fastened to the fuselage detachable hinges. Stabilizer — classical design, covered with fine long-staple paper.

The weight of the model with the equipment ROOM-2 — 1790 g (varioprop — 1760 g). For the exercise “speed” in the camera place the ballast weight up to 480g. For simplification and ease of a glider you can discard the flaps and spoilers.

Model NK-24 was operated for three seasons and showed good results: the range — 1875 m, the rate is 16.3 p.

Before you fly the model check the distance of the center of gravity and angle of attack of the wing. In light winds (in the absence of ascending currents) the glider must fly 4-4,5 min, without abrupt changes in flight speed. When you first start to apply flaps is inappropriate.
If the glider flies steadily in normal mode, make him dive. The deflection of the Elevator is selected so that the input and output of the peak was smooth. Then regulate the deflection of the rudder. At full rudder deflection the airframe has much to tip and turn sharply without losing speed and handling.

The angle of deflection of flaps pick up when tightened on the guard rails. Note that excessive deflection may cause loss of speed and control.

Special attention should be paid to the following elements of the flight: launch and early flight before the base, the span of base A and B, the turns (large radius with a minimum loss of height and small radii with minimal loss of speed), landing on the accuracy, the search for thermal flows.

It is best to train with the same assistant, who is the observer and the “judge”.

Training flights is advantageously carried out according to the rules of the competition taking into account the working time.
