The family car, which was launched at the Gorky plant in 1936, the machine “M-1” is, except it, there are four versions: semi-truck — “truck” “415”, “sedan” “11-73”, “Phaeton” “11-40” and all terrain vehicles models “61”. Last three cars — the second generation of the family, whose main difference is a powerful 6-cylinder engine is 4-cylinder the first two. But all machines have a lot in common or at least similar in appearance.
So, all the cars fenders, running boards, headlights, taillight, wheels and tires are the same (except for the tires with lugs at the “GAZ-61”), “M-1”, “11-73” and “61” is used the same body shell, and the “pick-up” the front part of the body forms a double cabin. Radically different only a body “Phaeton” “11-40”, but the hood, radiator shell and the buffer is set to “11-73” and “61” (a buffer of this model from “M-1”). The last model differs from the “11-73” higher “fit”, the visible front axle and simplified design: no chrome wheel trims, trims on the radiator grille and the bonnet, headlamps painted body colour. Simplification was caused by the demands of wartime.
Knowing these features and using our table, the modeller can perform not only model “GAZ-11-73”, shown in the drawing and illustration (see box), but any of the family models, respectively, by changing, if necessary, the grille, hood, bumper, the rear diffuser plate, the upper part of the body.
From a modern point of view the body is “M-1” (or “11-73”) seems to be simultaneously awkward and as if plump as the inclination of the walls is small, and there is even a narrowing of the sides at the bottom, and the radii of the transition are large. Along with the auto body characterized by very smooth curves. For example, the lap (under Windows), slightly bend down at the sides and up the rear wall. Even the pegs are not flat Note that they are lined with corrugated rubber. The surface of the sill of each window has a variable cross-section, so that the apparent line of a highlight is also not straight, but concave.
Windshield, enclosed in a metal frame, can be pulled forward, turning the handle of the shield devices. The middle part of the roof sheathed by leatherette on top a wooden frame.
The spare wheel is enclosed in a metal split casing (drivers called him “pan”) screwed to it an enameled emblem of the plant. Tail light — the one on the left. Front streamlined shape is equipped with milky white glass. The radiator cap is decorated with a scallop of the model “M-1”, and in later models, hidden under the fascia, above which there is a decorative figurine fusiform. The Windows — type “triplex”; in those days they were a bit yellowish.
Cars of this family were often painted in black (except for the “11-40” and “61”), sometimes dark blue, cherry, brown. A series of “11-73” in the years soldiers were issued with protective green color. In this model, you can give it an extra touch of wartime, covering the body camouflage spots.
In the cases of making a very detailed model, with interior details and mechanisms, driven by several references. Internal frame (pickup) and shield devices with expensive types of wood. Padding of wool felt light brown or gray on the seats — in the form of “loaves”. Steering wheel — black. Basic engine parts — silver color, and the rest of the chassis black. On the shield of the instrument is a large speedometer on the left and the right combinations of instruments: ammeter, the pointer of fuel level and pressure gauge indicating the pressure in the lubrication system of the engine. On the inner side of the doors there are “pockets” on the rear rack — braided loops-rail, and on the back of the front seat — cord. Rear window fitted with roller blind, overhead mounted sun shields.
A notable detail of external finishes — thin colored line on the door ledge (“molding”) of the body and on the rim.
A sample of the car “GAZ-11-73” exhibited in the Polytechnic Museum in Moscow, as well as a sample of the car “GAZ-a” preceding “M-1”. The basic proportions of the car “GAZ-A and GAZ-4” can be seen in the table, some of the details in the illustrations to the text, and the types of the hood, radiator and fenders the Modeler will get later, when you have described the truck Gorky plant, partially unified with a passenger.
The series cars “Pobeda” and “Volga” there is enough detailed material in the literature (and the machines themselves still in operation). In the “Modeller-designer” was also published drawings of the “Volga”.
Series “the Seagull” will be considered together with other high performance cars.
