We continue to introduce our readers — owners of garden and country plots — to nontraditional designs of cottage furniture published in the Polish magazine “Zrób sam”.
SWING CHAIR
There is probably no one who does not like a swing. However, while a rope and a piece of board are quite enough for children’s swings, more solid people need more substantial ones. We offer you an original swing chair. Equipped with a soft cushion, it is unlikely to leave anyone indifferent. Even the most respectable family members will be happy to use it.
The swing chair consists of a seat, a backrest, and two side frames. They are joined by three wooden rods, to which the suspension cords are also attached.
For manufacturing, it is best to use bars and rods of hardwood — beech or oak. They are both strong and have a beautiful texture, especially if after thorough sanding they are coated with clear varnish.

The side-frame parts are joined with screws and epoxy glue. To increase the rigidity of the frames, two reinforcing angle brackets are installed on each of them.
The suspension can be made with any reliable rope, but it is better if it is a nylon cord Ø6…8 mm. In the upper part, strong metal rings must be provided for fastening the swing to the crossbar and, which is quite important, for protecting the rope from fraying. By the way, such a chair can be hung not only in the garden, but also on a veranda or in a gazebo.
Additional comfort is provided by a soft cushion. It is made like an ordinary mattress: the cover is a bright durable fabric, the filling is hay or synthetic waste fiber.
SMALL TABLE
There is a huge variety of tables of different designs at which you can sit with friends, or use them as a coffee table or an auxiliary table when entertaining guests. The drawing shows yet another possible option — with two auxiliary wheels that make it much easier to move. The round shape and the use of natural materials fit the rustic style perfectly, giving your home a colorful look.
1 — tabletop (boards 25X150 mm, lengths: 820 mm — 2 pcs., 770 mm — 2 pcs., 600 mm — 2 pcs.), 2 — cross batten (25X100X650 mm, 2 pcs.), 3 — leg (25X100X470 mm, 2 pcs.), 4 — brace (25X100X500 mm, 2 pcs.), 5 — axle (Ø25X500 mm), 6 — wheel (Ø80X20 mm, 2 pcs.), 7 — leg (25X100X400 mm, 2 pcs.), 8 — tie (25X100X375 mm).
The work begins with making the tabletop. For this, six board pieces are needed (at least 20 mm thick and 150 mm wide). The surfaces must be carefully planed, and the side edges must meet without gaps. After laying the blanks on a flat surface, a circle Ø800 mm is marked. Then, after sawing and finishing the edges, the boards are fixed with screws by two cross battens.
The table legs are attached to the sides of the crosspieces; on one pair of them there are wooden wheels mounted on a Ø25 mm axle rod. The rigidity of the structure is provided by braces between the legs and a connecting tie.
