A bedside table for bedding usually consists of a narrow box with a lid or a folding flap covering half of the front panel.
The bedside table option proposed by the Hungarian magazine “Észermester” also looks almost no different externally. However, upon closer inspection, we’ll see that not only the upper half of the front panel opens, but also the lower one. At the same time, we’ll notice that behind them are rotating drawers, that is, two independent sections of the bedside table. Which, of course, is much more convenient for the user than the “small piles” of traditional options: in one compartment you can place, say, bed linens with pillows, in the other — blankets, a bedspread, or a spare throw.

1 — side panel; 2 — bottom; 3 — top; 4 — decorative panel; 5,6,7 — drawer walls; 8 — piano hinge; 9 — partition; 10 — stiffening strip.
Structurally, the two-story bedside table consists of three main blocks: the body itself and two hinged drawers.
The body is assembled from five narrow panels (material — furniture board or chipboard 16 mm thick): two side panels and three horizontal parts — top, bottom, and partition. They are all connected to each other with wooden tenons on glue (carpenter’s, casein) or screws (nails).
If a furniture board is used, the surfaces of the blanks do not require additional processing. You’ll only need to cover the sawn edges with decorative paper or plastic strips under wood. In this case, it’s best to use PVA glue with heating of the glued strips with a hot iron.

In the case of making panels from chipboard, their surfaces require not only careful processing (sanding) with sandpaper, but also painting with several layers of enamel paint in brown or black color.
Assembling the drawers is also not particularly difficult. For their manufacture, 4-5 mm thick plywood is required. The side walls of the drawers are beveled backward. Thanks to this, the drawers swing outward freely, rotating on piano hinges attached from below. In addition, the bedside table can have its own back wall made of the same material as the body panels. Decorative panels are also made from furniture board or chipboard, attached to the front walls of the drawers so that together they form a solid facade of the bedside table. The panels have furniture handles at the top.
