Decorating a home interior — whether a country house or a city apartment — always calls for inventiveness! Use your imagination, and even the most ordinary, discarded items can become original decorative elements. Here, for example, is a coffee table that uses an old cart wheel as its base. We will not dwell in detail on how to restore the wheel — that depends, of course, on its condition. Let us look at a possible design.
Coffee table:
1 — wheel (approx. Ø1 m); 2 — brace (steel, 3 pcs.); 3 — leg (timber 80x80x395 mm, 3 pcs.); 4 — tabletop (glass); 5 — screw 6×80 mm (6 pcs.); 6 — screw 6×30 mm (3 pcs.); 7 — bolt and M6 nut (3 sets); 8 — decorative washer (plywood); 9 — protective pad (felt, 3 pcs.)
As shown in the drawing, the wheel base sits horizontally on three legs and is covered from above by a round glass tabletop. The legs are wooden bars with a cross-section of 80×80 mm. Rigidity is provided by braces made from steel strip 4 mm thick and 30–40 mm wide. All fastenings are done with screws and bolts.
The critical part is the glass disc. It will most likely need to be ordered from shop-window glass at a glass and mirror workshop. The optimal thickness of such a tabletop is 6–8 mm.
