The basis for the design of the latest model has served the aggregates and components from the written-off aircraft Yak-18A. First, it is aviation engine AI-14R. The nine-power radial engine made 240 HP, but because the screw need to it was appropriate.
 
The solution was found, and the original and simple. A feature of the engine AI-14R is that it has a gearbox with left-hand rotation of the output shaft. So it established the pulling screw from the Yak-18, right rotation and adjustable in-flight pitch. In the embodiment of the snowmobile when the engine is left rotation is “backwards”, this pulling becomes pushing screw that, strictly speaking, required. The hydraulic actuator to change the pitch of the screw mounted on the sled.
 
As you know, the stable operation of the engine really depends on its thermal regime. For this powerplant was abandoned airplane hood with controlled leaf shutters. Because the snowmobile powerplant rotated 180°, the blinds in the closed position to hold the heated air under the hood. The hood — quick, and the blinds are controlled from the cabin using the knob and pull. In addition, for heating the air entering the carburetor, a heat exchanger made own designs, using for heating exhaust gases of the two lower cylinders.

Snowmobile cabin is also heated. The heat produced from one of the sections of the exhaust manifold and heated air is supplied inside the cab including the front windshield with the fan duct.
 
The cabin was a fragment of the fuselage of the decommissioned aircraft Yak-18A, subjected to alteration. First, changed the front shape from rectangular to conical with a cone. From the rear, just behind the canopy, cut the tail part of the fuselage and welded additional power frame for attaching the rear ski suspension and sub-frame (pole). The cabins, dismantled all the partitions. The front instrument panel with the seat of the first pilot moved forward a little. The copilot’s chair pushed up to 350 mm back. Later, when fuel prices increased significantly, the operation of the engine AI-14 due to the high fuel consumption (about 38 liters per hour) made a slip. For this reason, the snowmobile installed the rebuilt engine M-11FR-1.
 
The power of this engine was 160 HP, but it worked fine on cheap gasoline A-76, the consumption of which amounted to little more than 20 liters per hour.
 
Of course, the dynamics of the sled with this engine has decreased, but the maximum speed remained still higher than was necessary — about 110 km/h.
 
Summarizing, we note that the two latest designs of the snowmobile were pretty good and I got a great moral satisfaction from the process of technical creativity on the stage of their creation, and from traveling on this, in General, exotic form of transport.
