The history of the vehicle is quite long. First began to be fit to travel on our road of “Niva-2121” – put her on the big wheel from the “Jeep”. One friend hunter offered to change “Field” to the bus company “Trekol” bridges UAZ-31514 and a bunch of spare parts. We agreed, and then it all started: I decided to make a machine that could take you there, where no foot of man! Then began the search in the Internet and technical journals (including in the “Modeller-designer”) of various information on the construction of vehicles. Four months have all seen and read. Ripe and project the future of Rover.
Still 2-3 months collecting the parts. Bought a used UAZ-31514 10 thousand rubles, and VAZ-2109 8 thousand rubles as donors.
In may 2008 began construction, and in September of the same year, the Rover has already passed the first test, and as shown in the future – we coped with the task! In two years, hitting more than 7,000 km of major failure never had, always got back to the house on their own.
As is clear from what was said earlier, the engine capacity of 70 HP and a working volume of 1500 cm3 in unit with the clutch and five-speed gearbox was used on all-terrain vehicle purchased from VAZ-2109.
First of all, welded wheels (rims) chamber under a low pressure tire firm “Trekol” size 1300x600x533, designed for a working pressure of from 0.08 to 0.5 kgf/cm2. For them used the “vazovskie” wheels. Disks left intact, and the rims have usilili to 390 mm.
Like building a house start with the Foundation, and we all estimations started with suspension: assembled bridges from UAZ-31514 with homemade wheels and tires factory manufacturing “Trekol”. Bridges are placed apart at a distance equal to the future wheelbase (2970 mm – estimation, it was best for our vehicle) and began to try on the frame on the suspension of palwal-opticheskikh longitudinal leaf springs and hydraulic spring shock absorbers all from the same “UAZ”.
Frame welded, in the form of a simple, rectangular. It is based on two longitudinal bearing element of the spar, each consisting of a pair of steel tubes of rectangular cross-section 60×40 mm with a wall thickness of 3 mm. Pipe connected with each other through racks-reducers from the same pipe. In the end, every spar was the view of the farm. The side walls are connected to each other in the front and rear ends of traverses made of steel channel number 6,5, and in between-a few cross members from rolled different assortment. The vehicle has undergone a technical / / regional organization all-Russian society of motorists, and registered in the State inspection of technical supervision. Obtained the registration number of the vehicle.
However, the Rover continued to improve. In the summer of 2011, the year changed a makeshift wheels (rims) for commercial production and tyres – demon-chamber of the same company “Trekol” and with the same dimensions 1300x600x533 (the last dimension is the diameter) with a working pressure of from 0.08 to 0.7 kgf/cm2. Overhauled the engine. Went through the transfer case (it turns out, some time went without oil in it): changed all the seals, the housing attached to the frame on four pillows. Under the front panel did the so-called “glove boxes” – small stowage boxes. The casing body replaced with plywood on the metal of duralumin sheet thickness of 0.8 mm and further insulated cabin.
Redid the hood, now it opens forward to access engine was more convenient, redid the interior, replaced the rectangular block lights on a normal round. In General, the design lightened by about 300 lbs. then the permeability increased “significantly” (even the virgin snow half a meter deep Rover overcomes confident) and is not inferior to similar vehicles, whose price is far higher (about 1 million). For the construction of our Rover left 140 thousand rubles, not counting the cost of wheels. In principle, both are quite feasible budget option.
Well, what else to add to the characterization of the Rover? The longest journey over 300 km through the swamp, not counting the road on the highway. The most extreme trip – fishing in the cold under 40 degrees. The lack of one: and after the upgrade still a bit heavy – 1200 kg, but it is convenient to go with friends camping, a long trip (five people can sleep in full growth). In the future we plan to build a smaller all-terrain vehicle: at 2 – 3 people and weight up to 800 kg. In General, a real Rover to date, has already passed more than 10 000 km without serious damage, at least, always returned home on their own, and even sometimes had to take in tow the “distress” of fellow travelers.
As became clear from the description of the design, the vehicle created on the basis of domestic cars VAZ and UAZ, which facilitates and reduces the cost of its maintenance and operation.
Ending a story about Rover, I note that the original version of the body design, in my opinion, was better, but later we opted to maximize internal space and facilitate machine.
