BLUE BIRD WITH WHITE WING

The rapid slide on the icy surface of our homemade ice sailing ice boats, feathered wing-sail, in General determined the name of winter boat — “Blue bird”. It was built at the Central station of young technicians of the Moldavian SSR and was intended to teach novice boaters the art of managing sails in the winter.
In the process of operation of ice-boats of type “the Blue bird” it became clear that, zamyslennye as simulators, they can be used as racing, because they have good stability and maneuverability. Well, decent capacity allows to apply them for pure transport chains, for example, to deliver mail or small packages. By the way, as it turned out, the ice boats are quite suitable not only for teenagers but also for adults.
 
“Blue bird” built from cheap and accessible materials that makes possible its repetition in almost any conditions.
 
The appearance of the glider — in figure 1. His sailing rig from a Dinghy Optimist, it is possible use and especially made Bermuda sails.

From the standard (1520X1520 mm) sheet of plywood, cut the bulkhead, two knize, nose and bottom. The pattern of the sheet shown in figure 8. Metal parts glider is simple. Screw connections allow to do without welding, although the latter is preferable. In the suspension unit of the front steering skate includes a holder, welded of the two steel profiles “corner”, vertical stand (steel rod Ø 15 mm) duplici lever (steel strip with a thickness of 5 mm) steering bearing (tube with inner Ø 16 mm) and two fastening rings. The suspension of the front bearing by using a steel spring or a package of rubber washers. The ridge consists of three parts: a steel blade and two dural plates.
 
The rear skates are no different from the front, but the cage rigidly connected with a transverse beam of the hull.
 
To test the “Blue bird” can serve as the surface of the frozen pond. It should be remembered that even a small snowy ice creates a significant resistance to movement of the glider, so the full workout is best done either in early winter, immediately after the ice formation, either in March, after the melting snow.
