“ROAD TRAIN” WITH YOUR HANDS

“ROAD TRAIN” WITH YOUR HANDS

Despite the abundance of automobile and tractor equipment on sale, interest in homemade structures does not disappear. The main reasons for this are the desire to create something yourself, not to mention saving the family budget, and the lack of cars “to suit your taste” on sale. This is especially noticeable in rural areas. It is enough to drive fifty kilometers away from large cities, and curious homemade products begin to appear on the roads and in courtyards.

In the rural settlement of Nagorye, covering several villages and hamlets, such designs are not uncommon, and recently I met Evgeniy Nikulin, who created the simplest tractor, with a Chinese four-stroke Zongshen engine with a power of 9 hp, and two trailers. A feature of the engine is a step-down ( twice) gearbox and automatic clutch.

The tractor frame is welded from steel pipes of rectangular section 30×60 mm. The gearbox, rear axle shortened by 380 mm and transmission were taken from a used UAZ-469 car.

The front suspension and wheels are from an SZD wheelchair, the steering wheel is from an Audi car, and the seat is from an Oka minicar. The rear wheels of the tractor are from the GAZ-69 goat.

I adjusted the track of the rear wheels to match the front one, shortening the rear axle with the help of a grinder to 1090 mm. Base – 1322 mm.

General form
General form:
1 — front wheel (from the SZD motorized stroller); 2 – frame; 3 — power unit (engine with forced air cooling, interlocked with a fuel tank, air filter and muffler); 4 – two-speed gearbox, interlocked with automatic clutch; 5 — chain drive; 6 — sub-engine frame; 7—cradle for ballast weight; 8 — gearbox (gearbox); 9 — gearshift lever; 10 — steering;
11 — range multiplier (transfer case from UAZ-469); 12 — cardan shaft; 13 — seat (from the Oka car); 14 — rear wheel (from GAZ-69); 15 — rear axle; 16 — front suspension (from the SZD motorized stroller)

Since the engine turned out to be quite light, to increase the traction of the front drive wheels with the road it was necessary to load the front end (not shown in the photo) with a concrete block. This feature should be taken into account by those who want to repeat the design.

To tow a semi-trailer, the author provided a simple and also homemade tow bar, which saved at least 5,000 rubles.

The tractor, although it can be used for agricultural work, was created primarily for towing semi-trailers. The first of them is intended for transporting long lumber necessary for building a bathhouse, and the second, smaller with sides, is for small loads, such as firewood.

The first of them, which received the proper name “Dissolution”, is designed, as already mentioned, for the transportation of long objects weighing over a ton. Its basis is a frame welded from six-meter steel pipes with sections of 40×80 mm and 50×50 mm. The rear axle from the Niva car is attached to the frame, and a wooden body is attached to the top. All connections of the metal structure of the trailer are made by welding.

The second trailer is smaller with a carrying capacity of 500 kg and is made from a metal bed frame with armored mesh. How many of these once popular beds were eventually thrown into a landfill by their owners. Most of them were melted down, and some are still found today, only you are learning about their use in a new capacity now.

The rear axle (without a gearbox, of course) from the Oka car was attached to this “bed” frame, and a wooden body was attached on top.

As for trailer wheels, the choice is quite wide, it all depends on the capabilities of the homemaker.
