THE BOOT FOR ANY SEASON

THE TRUNK FOR ALL SEASONSWhen developing this design car trunk, the task was to create a device which, in addition to the normal daily functions would satisfy and lover of outdoor activities — would allow us to transport two sets of boards sailing in the summer and (with minor changes) 5-6 pairs of skis in the winter.

Given the large weight of the two sets sailing boards (about 54 pounds), in fact the trunk is facilitated, and the load center possibly underestimated. Design of the trunk is that for 1-5 minutes two people can easily load and unload rounds.

As the most suitable material for the manufacture of basic elements of design we can recommend stainless steel pipes Ø12 or 14 mm with a wall thickness of 2 mm, otherwise the pipe diameter should be taken at least 16 mm and the wall thickness shall not be less than 1.5 mm. the Other elements are experiencing much lower loads, and you can make them from pipes of smaller diameter.

The trunk consists of two dual arcs with the nodes of attachment to the roof of the car and special cradles that are attached to the arcs of the screw terminals.
On the cradle there are special clamps for fastening of the masts and geeks; clamps for masts are made of flat steel thickness of 1 mm, and the geeks are fixed under the load carrier bars by means of steel wire fasteners with a diameter of 4 mm and hooks welded to the chains. The tool trays are removable, which gives you the opportunity to move them along the trunk and adjust the size of the hull of a sailing Board. The connection of the locating blocks with arcs on the bolts. The average tool insert serves for fixation of contiguous sides (in the case of carriage of two sets sail boards). To facilitate the loading and unloading clamping element to be rotatable, fixed on the trunk.

As the car “Zaporozhets” a few already (the size of the roof) than “Zhiguli”, the shape of the side of lodgements in some details differ. The device provides sufficient longitudinal fixation of the buildings as they are located closer to the edges, where the body visibly shrinking. However, for greater reliability and especially when traveling long distances, it is useful to make the auxiliary limiter longitudinal movement: it is attached to the longitudinal ties of the trunk, which can be two or three.

All elements of the trunk going on the welding. For protection of the polished surface of the hull planks from damage to elements of the trunk wearing a rubber tube. It is better to set in place before welding or wear a slit along the tube, and reinforce them with tape.

During winter operation, for transportation of skis or sport of sledge, instead of lodgements strengthen is quite simple fixing, to fabricate the clips the best stainless steel with a thickness of 1 mm.
