HELPER TABLE

HELPER TABLE

Illness is equally burdensome for both children and adults – the recent pandemic is a clear example of this. In such a situation, a small and convenient bedside table will certainly come in handy, which can be used for eating or light activities: reading, drawing, performing urgent work on a laptop or tablet, browsing news on the internet.

To make the table, you will need a sheet of plywood 10-12 mm thick: all the main parts of the structure are cut from it, and first of all the tabletop itself measuring 550×250 mm. Two legs measuring 180×170 mm are attached to it from below on inserted tenons with glue, and on top, closer to the front edge, – a batten with a cross-section of 30×20 mm. It serves to fix the inclined work board using piano or card hinges. The batten and work board are slightly shorter than the tabletop: an indentation is made on the right so that the patient can reach what is on the table.

Bedside table:

1 – tabletop; 2 – batten; 3 – hinge; 4 – legs; 5 – work board; 6 – support; 7 – stand; 8 – groove for stand

The work board has dimensions of 400×250 mm. A support for books or pencils is attached to it from the front below, and at the back – a folding stand on a card hinge that holds the work board in an inclined position. Grooves for the stand are cut in the tabletop, which allows changing the angle of inclination of the work board.

If desired, for greater versatility of the table, the work board can be made removable, and the tabletop can be framed around the perimeter with a low border made of slats with a cross-section of 20×10 mm.

The structure assembled from sanded elements is coated with varnish, stain or muted furniture enamel.
