A PASSENGER CAR IN THE PLOWLAND

Car enthusiasts who have dachas or homestead plots take up shovels in spring just as enthusiastically as the carless part of humanity. Meanwhile, they could quite avoid such unproductive expenditure of their own physical effort by shifting a significant portion of it onto their car.

Any passenger car can become an excellent plowman—you just need to equip it with a pair of simple devices.

In recent years, so-called motor winches—agricultural units with motorcycle engines—have gained great popularity among amateur designers. Well, any passenger car is practically a ready-made winch. It’s enough to replace one of its drive wheels with a drum—and you’ll get a powerful soil-tilling unit capable of doing a significant portion of agricultural work for you. You’ll also need a portable pulley equipped with a pair of anchors and, of course, a plow.

The car is placed near the plot to be processed in such a way that the entire plot is visible from the driver’s seat. One of the rear wheels of the car is jacked up and removed, after which a tripod with an adjustable support is placed under the rear axle of the car. The remaining wheels are secured with reliable blocks that ensure the car’s immobility. At the beginning of the plot, where the first furrow is to be plowed, a portable pulley is installed, through which a nylon or steel cable is passed and secured to the plow frame.

The additional equipment that turns a passenger car into a hardworking plowman can be made even in a home workshop. For example, the winch drum can be welded. The plow for the car winch is better made in the style of a horse-drawn two-wheeled plow: it holds the furrow itself, copying the adjacent one that was previously made. An interesting plow design was developed by G. Odegov from Nizhny Tagil. Such a plow is designed for a layer with a cross-section of 0.25×0.25 m, and the unit’s mass is only 13 kg.

And one more element of additional equipment that turns a car into a car winch is a portable pulley with an anchor device, designed to change the direction of the traction vector.
