Travel enthusiasts have many devices for cooking hot food in camping conditions (primus stoves, blowtorches, portable stoves, etc.). Their operation requires a supply of liquid fuel or firewood. The former is unsafe to store, and firewood is hard to find in the mountains or in treeless steppe.
For climbers and tourists, hunters and anglers, I offer a simple and convenient stove that does not need traditional fuel. Such a mini-stove and several packs of dry fuel will not take up much space in a backpack.
The camping hearth is assembled from sheet metal scrap (duralumin, steel, etc.). The shapes of the stove bottom and walls follow the form of the cookware used, with a gap of 20 — 30 mm from the walls.
The grate for placing cookware is made of several pieces of steel rods 3.5 mm in diameter (other diameters are also possible; then do not forget to drill the corresponding holes in the stove body) and 15 — 30 mm longer than the stove diameter. When preparing the hearth for use, the rods are passed through holes drilled 80 — 90 mm from its bottom in opposite walls.

The stove design is shown in the figure. The dimensions are given for a standard army mess tin. In the packed position, the grate rods are removed and the mess tin is placed inside the body. As a result, the hearth takes up only slightly more space than the cookware itself. The space between the stove walls and the mess tin is filled with gear (grate rods, fuel, tackle, etc.).
The design can be improved by adding folding legs and a tray for fuel, and also by making a double wall with thermal insulation, a folding grate for cookware, and so on.
The configuration and dimensions of the stove vary depending on the cookware used. But the layout must be preserved: the flame should pass under the cookware and then between the walls of the cookware and the stove, which ensures fast heating and reliable burning even in strong wind. I have been using this convenient stove for many years in any weather conditions.
