“Gird-09”

“Gird-09” — the first Soviet experimental rocket, the forerunner of the space rockets of our time. It was created in the Gird (Group of study of reactive motion) under the leadership of S. P. Korolev by the project of the head of the 2nd engineering brigade M. K. tihonravova.

17 Aug 1933 Nahabino on the site near Moscow, was held the first launch. It reached a height of about 400 m, which was issued the act, which to this day is kept in the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Successful tests of the missiles “09” and then “X” became an important stage in the development of Soviet rocketry.

Rocket “09” consists of a head fairing, instrument compartment, the housing having a slight downward taper, and tail fairing, which ends in the nozzle. To the housing are mounted four of the stabilizer. To their base for rigidity and stability riveted the fairings.

The casing of the instrument compartment and the housing has longitudinal ribs, which also serve as guides. In their recesses are placed the pipe starting machine.

Fairing at the end of the flight is reset. It is fitted on the cylindrical rib and is held by shrink fit. Inside the fairing is placed a parachute, which through a special bracket is attached to the body. After the rocket reaches a height of 1,500 m, the squib is triggered, reset the head fairing and the parachute opens.

“Gird-09”:

1 — fairing, 2 — igniter, 3 — valve, 4 — manometer, 5, 21, a cylindrical rib, 6 — screws, 7 — spring 8 — the valve of the oxygen 9 — mesh nebulizer, 10 — combustion chamber 11 — the tail fairing, 12 — nozzle of Laval 13 — stabilizer, 14 — screws for fixing stabilizer, 15 — housing 16 — the ring stiffness, 17 oxygen tank 18 profiles rigidity, 19 — instrument compartment, 20 — clip fastening parachute, 22 — a place for parachute

The frame of the instrument compartment is formed by two ribs and four profile stiffness. The instrument compartment at the end of the oxygen tank has a pressure reducing valve designed to vent excess pressure and fill the tank oxidizer is liquid oxygen. Here is a manometer for measuring the pressure in the oxygen tank. The body of the rocket dural, riveted. Inside the case is an oxygen tank made of thick-walled dural tube (internal Ø 61 mm). The stiffness of his landing provides an intermediate annular rib. In the bottom of the tank is screwed up the valve of the oxygen. The bottom of the faucet is screwed on the upper end of the combustion chamber.

Shell — the main part of the combustion chamber on the outside covered with sheet asbestos, inside a layer of heat resistant coating. In the upper part of the combustion chamber fitted mesh, the purpose of which is to spray oxygen.

Through the bottom into the combustion chamber is inserted a metal cylinder, having a large number of holes Ø 10 — 12 mm. Outside him at a distance of 15 — 20 mm welded thin metal ring; formed a design resembling a honeycomb. These rings are filled with a solid honeycomb gasoline (a solution of rosin in gasoline, representing a jelly-like mass), after which the cylinder with fuel inserted into the combustion chamber and close the bottom of the camera. Then fixed lower fairing, supplied fuse or air candle. The rocket is ready to launch!
