It’s nice to relax after working in the garden by settling comfortably in a hammock. Buying a ready-made hammock is no problem today, but a true craftsperson prefers to make everything with their own hands—especially when it doesn’t take much effort. And making a hammock is really easy.
You’ll need a piece of any heavy fabric at least 1 m wide. Thick canvas, tent cloth, or their synthetic substitute—avizent—will also work. The transverse suspension members are bars 45×20 mm made of beech or another sufficiently strong wood. The longitudinal “frame” of the hammock is made from 6–8 mm nylon cord.

1 — base (canvas); 2 — crossbar (2 pcs.); 3 — suspension cord; 4 — stopper knot (4 pcs.); 5 — reinforcing patch (4 pcs.).
Lay the material out on a flat surface and cut the hammock base to the specified dimensions (you can adjust them if necessary). Cut rectangular notches at the corners and reinforce the edges with additional fabric strips. Next, turn under the edges along the short sides as shown in the drawing and stitch them with three zigzag seams. Finish the long sides the same way.

The crosspieces should be slightly longer than the finished width of the hammock base. Shape and sand their ends smooth. All that remains is to install the bars, thread the suspension cords, and tie stopper knots on them. Adjust the knots in place to get the desired hammock depth. That’s it—enjoy your rest!
