Most city dwellers living in apartment buildings usually dry their laundry on balconies and loggias. Ropes stretched low get in the way of placing flower boxes, a deck chair or other leisure items on the balcony; ropes stretched high cause inconvenience when hanging laundry and do not always ensure the necessary safety. All these drawbacks can be avoided by using the device I propose. The design is fairly simple. At 80…100 mm from the ceiling, a movable pipe Ø25…30 mm (thick-walled plumbing pipe can be used) is mounted in three supports, with two bushings fixed on pins at its ends. Levers made from 25×25 mm steel angle are welded to them. A clothes line is passed through holes in the horizontal flanges of the angles.

1 — support plate, 2 — bracket, 3 — crank with handle, 4 — connecting rod, 5 — adjustment fork (2 pcs.), 6 — dryer lever (2 pcs.), 7 — bushing (2 pcs.), 8 — pivot pipe, 9 — support (3 pcs.), 10 — clothes line.
The mechanism for raising and lowering the dryer is mounted on the wall at a convenient height and consists of a 3…4 mm thick steel plate measuring 70×300 mm, to which the crank bracket with handle is welded (bolted connection can also be used). The crank is linked to the dryer lever via a rod.

A — lower position.
B — upper position.
The mechanism operation is clear from the diagrams shown. Additional holes in the bracket, crank and lever combined with adjustment forks on the connecting rod will allow the most optimal operating mode to be selected.
The dimensions given on the drawings refer to a specific dryer design installed in my loggia and can either be replicated by other DIYers or adjusted to suit existing conditions. By the way, such a device can be installed not only on a balcony but also in a bathroom or other suitable place.
