In 1978, at the international motor show in Paris was presented the new sports car BMW M1. He is currently considered the fastest car of the company, and this was achieved not only due to the design features, but also because a fundamentally new approach to design. Racing cars are usually created on the basis of serial models, but the firm BMW chose a different path. BMW M1 from the beginning was created to participate in competitions, and requirements specific requirements take into account not only when designing the engine, but the bodywork along with chassis, It is possible to achieve the harmonious unity of all units of the car with a powerful engine and is easy to assemble them with a “good” motor.
The design of the bodywork was entrusted to Italian design company “Ital design”. Managed to create a body with a low, slightly wedge-shaped profile and down dull back. As shown by numerous purge car models, this form has a very low resistance even on maximum speed (the most powerful version of this machine reaches speeds of 360 km/h).
The bodyshell of the new car is the same pretentiousness or avangardism style solutions. This is because artists and designers were based primarily on the criteria of functionality. This was the search for a kind of compromise many different and often conflicting demands. A space is needed to dedicate to the engine and transmission, the driver should be comfortable at his workplace and he should have a good overview, under the wings it is necessary to provide enough space for wide wheels. Besides, it is impossible to forget and about weight distribution, air resistance (quite considerable at high speeds) and a number of other requirements. The reconciliation of these contradictions and the car was born a simple form, without unnecessary decorations.
The car body of reinforced fiberglass firmly attached to the frame of steel rectangular tubes. The frame has the strength in torsion and bending and ensures safety to both passengers and the driver. Passive safety of the vehicle meets the requirements to racing cars was carefully worked out in the course of a number of tests.
Sports car BMW M1 prototype trace model.
The interior was developed based on the recommendations of ergonomics, the controls are optimal for the driver range; the steering wheel is associated with the actuator safe double joint shaft; for a more comfortable fit driver s seat anatomical position “donut” can be changed.
All the cars of this brand are painted in bright flashy colors: white, light blue, light green, bright red. Brilliant chrome parts are almost there. Trim all Windows, gutters, door handles, locks, fuel filler neck of the fuel tank, spoiler, window blinds rear window and intakes on the sides, trim the back of svatopluka, antenna, rearview mirror, windshield wipers and sprayers for the windscreen rubber insert rear bumper and thresholds of the sidewall — all Matt black. On the white car podshtampovki around the perimeter and painted black.
Colorless glass headlights, turn signal lamp and side turn signal indicators light orange. Rear sweatblock has the following fonzi (center to periphery): top row: dark red, with longitudinal light-diffusing risks and white, bottom row — white and light red. Extreme turn yellow and orange.
Cabin seats are leather, with a Central fabric inserts.
TIPS ON MODELING.
Car BMW M-1 has several features that are attractive for use as a prototype for the manufacture of trace model in scale 1:24. Copy sports car, as practice shows, it is always preferable characteristic features of its layout and contours allow you to create a path model with good driving characteristics.
To start work it is best to choose a place for the engine. On the real machine it is located front right, and on the model, you can try another layout — the shape of the body allows it to do. I think the most successful scheme with the engine, which are located along or across front of the rear axle. However, to focus only on them do not: you can try to install two engines, one for each of the rear wheels or to what extent, to repeat the layout of the transmission prototype. Recently, the designers of “big” cars are widely used front-wheel-drive scheme — why not play it on the model! To specify the engine hardly makes sense, since each Modeler usually comes from their own capability (the estimated weight of the model, engine type, the pairs of gears and the like).
In the drawings shows one embodiment of a frame of the spatial type. It will be extremely durable and lightweight, if you spaete its steel wire grade optical fiber and tin. Note the method of attaching the frame to the body with two pins and screws. This fixation allows you to quickly remove the body for holding the adjustments of the transmission or the undercarriage of the model.
The design of the current collector:
1 — the guide runner (PCB or Plexiglas), 2 — pin, 3 — collector (braid armored cable), 4 — mounting the petal (plate), 5, 6 — screws M2,5, 7 — frame of the current collector (wire OVS, tin), 8 — spring.
Device front axle model:
1 — the frame (the wire OVS, tin), 2 — bolt, M3, 3 — knuckle (tin), 4 — bearing, 5 — disc (D16T, MA-8), 6 — nut M3, 7 — transverse thrust (OVS wire, tin).
The front suspension of the model can be steered wheels. Just remember that doing this only makes sense in the case where the front wheels are sufficiently loaded, for example, on machines of the twin-engine scheme, with front engine or with a relatively heavy body.
The device of the current collector is relatively simple, and its design is quite clear from the figure.
When finishing the model, you need to remember that BMW cars are always distinguished by clarity and expressiveness of forms. Take care to reproduce the body of the prototype. This equally applies not only to its basic elements, and details. In particular, pay attention to the swage line complex profile, dividing the body into upper and lower parts. This element plays an important role in the appearance of the car. If it is not enough careful study of advise you to fill the swage line black paint. In addition, it will help to hide the split line, if the body will consist of two halves.
Among the complex elements for the simulation can also include louvers over the rear window. When executing these the most important is a fine study of the design and quality performance. Equally important is the precision fabrication of complex profile bonnet with air intakes.
Realistic perception of the body models significantly enhance seemingly minor design elements. Besides those already mentioned, these include the round emblem of the firm, roof antenna, rear view mirror, “the janitor” on the windshield, wheels, door handles and locks, lamps and lights, as well as the tube of the fuel tank.
And finally the last tip. Before beginning work on any part of the model remember that your copy is not a Museum piece, a miniature race car, so try to design each node of a reliable, light and durable.
