ROCKET “07”

ROCKET Rocket “07” — the first rocket was working 2nd brigade Gird (Group of study of reactive motion), led by K. M. Tikhonravov.
To work in Gird M. K. Tikhonravov has gained extensive experience in the development of aircraft structures, distinguished by originality, and transfer aviation principles of rocketry. That is why the “07” had a very unusual shape and, as a consequence, the unusual location of the equipment.
 
A characteristic feature of the missile lies in the fact that the combustion chamber was in the upper part. This gave it greater stability in flight, since the center of thrust with the engine running was above the center of gravity. Fuel tanks (two liquid oxygen and two kerosene) were mounted in the cavities of the stabilizers, which were joined together at the head of the rocket.
The frame of the rocket was made of sheet aluminium and profiles with beaded holes to give the structure rigidity. Siding — aluminum sheet.
 
According to initial calculations, weight 24 kg “07” had to rise to a height of about 10 km, and then worked expelling machine, which is ejected from the head portion of the parachute, and the rocket gently fell to the ground.
 
Rocket “07” was designed with a special engine. However, deficiencies in the cooling system is not allowed to use it in the experiments. There was an attempt to put the engine from the rocket gird-X with index “10”, but he did not develop enough thrust. Further decided to use the spent engine “02”, with him and conducted flight tests.

All the elements of the missile were ready in 1933, and in June began testing and debugging. Due to the fact that he started a forced work on the rocket “09”, debugging “07” was temporarily discontinued and resumed only in August 1933, after the launch of the “09”.
 
In October of the same year conducted the first test firing of the propulsion system, and in the summer of 1935 made two attempts of launch. And if when you first try flight of the missile due to some damage to the skin was unstable, then when you re-start the flight was fine. The rocket rose vertically and disappeared from view. The place of her fall could not be found.
