SAILING IN A NEW CLASS

SAILING IN A NEW CLASSSupermodernity model yacht building caused by the race for sporting results, have led the international Association of ship NAVIGA to introduce a new class available for mass modeling. This is the F5-E (“economy”), which is due to a number of restrictions and requirements to the model leaves the chances of success in competitions not only for art created from a “space” materials and with the assistance of reach for most technologies.
Materials such as carbon fiber and Kevlar, of course, allowed to make another step in the improvement of sports equipment, but also increased the gap between the mass of modelers and sport “elite”. As a result, there was a storm of interest in the boatbuilding industry. The reaction was the introduction of a new class, which at a body length of 1 m, the boat can not be done easier 1.7 kg, and it is without a keel and ballast. The yacht F5-E prohibited the turning of the mast, managed keels and other special methods of control; allow access only to the helm and sails.

To give a more complete understanding of the technique a new promising class, today we published drawings of the models created by sportsmen from Czecho-Slovakia.

RC model yacht was designed three years ago, immediately after the first informations about the rules and requirements for the technique class F5-e. Now already created about a dozen similar structures, including with the monocoque chassis. In the drawings given the option, taking into account all incremental improvements.

Body. Do note that if you bookmark a series of more than two models, you receive a direct sense in making forms for vyklicky shells made of fiberglass. But not less successful is obtained and a case of the lightweight frames of mm plywood and sheathing, formed balsa strips with a thickness of 2 mm. After grinding it is covered with fiberglass relative density of 30 g/m2.

The wheel with the notch under the stock sawed out of plywood with a thickness of 2 mm. After gluing up the wire and edging it is also covered with fiberglass.

The keel is cut from a sheet of aluminum, or lightweight precast is used, which is shown in the drawings. Gypsum in the form directly to the lower part of the keel “filled with” ballast from molten tin. By the way, in the class F5-E application for ballast of metal, the specific gravity is greater than the lead (for example, tungsten) is prohibited.

Hatch for access to radio is size 120X140 mm and is placed between the frames 4 and 5. To germetizirujut he can either sliding cover, or a simple sealing adhesive film.

The hull, keel and rudder zashpaklevyvajutsja a mixture of an epoxy resin powder or baby powder with a small addition of alcohol. After polishing parts are covered with nitrocellulose.

Rigging. The mast is made of dural tube Ø 14X1 mm, boom pipe Ø 8X1 mm. it is Possible to replace a tree if the needed pipes. Workpiece diameter of the mast in this case about 20 mm. Mast is adjustable in the range of 80 mm at the position of the spur. The shrouds are made of nylon fishing line for badminton rackets; they stretch fixed with plates with several holes.

Sailing rig. The most accessible material for the sail is a thin fabric such as “Bologna”. When it raskryvanie be aware that the warp threads must be the same in the direction from the rear skatinami. Strengthen the corners formed of the same fabric, and the top corners — sided pads made of thin plywood.

The model is equipped with two-channel radio control equipment with a single winch. However, unmanaged sail boat easily goes the distance. This version should work like the steering system, and the sails are placed in a slightly open position.

Provided only the basic sizes. Small figures are shown cross-section corresponding to the projection of “Housing”.
