TANDEM – A BICYCLE BUILT FOR TWO
For many years I am a regular subscriber of “M-A” and find in it many interesting and necessary. I hope that my experience will be useful to other readers: I would like to share my thoughts and practical recommendations regarding the manufacture and operation of a tandem bike. A car I made on their own five years ago and drove it for thousands of kilometers.
“STREET” – UNIVERSAL MOTORCYCLE
The desire to make a motorcycle of his own design came to me long ago. From the school years through my hands passed almost all manufactured and domestic models as well as Czech “Java” and “Chezet”. However, none of these machines was not satisfied: I wanted to have something solid, powerful and comfortable. I needed a bike that allows you to go on a long, long journey, able to quickly overcome a long distance and at the same time suitable for business trips around town, economical and maneuverable. In short, I needed a motorbike that meets the requirements of class “street”.
TAIGA DEL’TALET
Operation of the trike in boreal conditions has a lot of features that should be considered in the design of such specialized aircraft. In particular, taiga del’talet must possess the ability to catch even the small clearing, and when forced landings and at the tops of the trees. The engine of his must differ high reliability, the ability to run effortlessly in the air and on the ground force mi of the pilot. But the staff should have the ability to transform, so that its parts can be had relatively quickly to collect the vehicle, allowing to reach a forced landing to the nearest shelter.

Student design Bureau of Moscow Institute of civil aviation engineers have long occupied a leading position in the design, construction and research of trikes in porridge country. In the “M-K” has repeatedly published materials activities of SKB MIIGA; the last of them (“del’talet becomes a profession”, “M-K” No. 4, 1990| caused a surge of reader interest to the student KB.

Doing for a long time, the construction and operation of velomobiles (was a prize winner of all-Union velofestivalya in šiauliai), I was convinced of their lack of practicality. The large size of the velomobile exclude the possibility of its storage in the apartment. Known foldable construction is complicated to manufacture and quite cumbersome. Used them on wheels, usually a Bicycle, not designed for the lateral loads experienced by the velomobiles on the bends.
THE BOOT FOR ANY SEASON
When developing this design car trunk, the task was to create a device which, in addition to the normal daily functions would satisfy and lover of outdoor activities — would allow us to transport two sets of boards sailing in the summer and (with minor changes) 5-6 pairs of skis in the winter.
